16-year-old Sam Butler has signed with North Carolina’s Triple R Racing for the 2020 racing season. Butler will pilot the No. 81 in the Late Model Stock division at Hickory Motor Speedway with former Jr Motorsports Car Chief, Steven Civitarese, as Crew Chief. The Indiana-native has already racked up 3 wins, 19 top 10 and 14 top 5 finishes at Hickory Motor Speedway including a win in the famed Bobby Isaac Memorial. Sam has also competed in two Cars Tour Late Model races.
In 2019, his second season in the Legends Young Lions Division, the young driver had a stellar year. He racked up numerous wins and top-5 finishes with 39 starts at tracks across the country, earned the 2019 Bojangles’ Summer Shootout Young Lions Championship at Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC), brought home the trophy in the Legends Asphalt Nationals Young Lions Race of Champions at Carteret County Speedway (NC), and won the Indiana State Young Lions Championship.
As a Young Lions rookie in 2018, Butler took the checkered flag an incredible nine times in only 19 starts, and he finished in the top-5 in all but five of those events. In 2017, as the young hotshoe wrapped up his Quarter Midgets career, he finished 4th in USAC Nationals Senior Animal, earned Indiana State Championships in both Senior Animal and Light World Formula, and earned Club Championships in Light 160 and Senior Animal.
